Beyoncé lidera as indicações ao próximo Grammy, com um total de nove citações, com Drake, Rihanna e Kanye West concorrendo, cada um deles, em oito categorias. A cerimônia de entrega do mais prestigiado prêmio da música norte-americana acontece no Staples Center, em Los Angeles, em 12 de fevereiro de 2017, com apresentação de James Corden.

Na prestigiada categoria de Álbum do Ano, Lemonade, de Beyoncé, batalha pela honraria com 25, de Adele, Views, de Drake, Purpose, de Justin Bieber e A Sailor's Guide to Earth, de Sturgill Simpson. É válido lembrar que, ainda que 25 e Purpose tenham sido lançados em 2015, eles saíram depois da data de corte para a cerimônia de 2016, ficando elegíveis para 2017.

Na categoria Gravação do Ano, “Formation” (Beyoncé), “Hello” (Adele) e “7 Years” (Lukas Graham) competem com “Stressed Out” (Twenty One Pilots) e “Work” (Rihanna com Drake).

Um atestado da força de Lemonade é que Beyoncé também está indicada aos prêmios de Melhor Performance Solo (“Hold Up”), Melhor Álbum Urbano Contemporâneo (Lemonade), Melhor Performance de Rap/Cantada (“Freedom”, com Kendrick Lamar) e Melhor Performance de Rock (“Don’t Hurt Yourself”, com Jack White).

Entre os indicados para a categoria de Artista Revelação, dois rappers (Chance the Rapper e Anderson .Paak) estão na disputa contra dois artistas country (Maren Morris e Kelsea Ballerini) e o duo de dance-pop The Chainsmokers (que, inclusive, é atração do Lollapalooza Brasil de 2017).

No total, Chance the Rapper angariou sete indicações: “No Problem” concorre a Melhor Música de Rap e a Melhor Performance de Rap, enquanto o disco Coloring Book disputa como Melhor Álbum de Rap. A música “Ultralight Beam”, de The Life of Pablo, de Kanye West, com participação de Chance, também rendeu citações em Melhor Performance de Rap/Cantada e Melhor Música de Rap.

Na categoria de Melhor Álbum de Rap, Coloring Book tem a concorrência de The Life of Pablo(West), And The Anonymous Nobody, do De La Soul, Blank Face LP, de Schoolboy Q, e Major Key, do DJ Khaled. É notável que a Academia de Gravação tenha mudado as regras para reconhecer discos lançados apenas em streaming, beneficiando Coloring Book e Chance the Rapper.

A triunfante despedida de David Bowie, Blackstar, rendeu quatro lembranças ao finado ícone da música, mais notavelmente Melhor Música de Rock, Melhor Performance de Rock (ambas com “Blackstar”) e Melhor Álbum Alternativo. Na última delas, Bowie disputa com A Moon Shaped Pool, do Radiohead, 22, A Million, de Bon Iver, Post Pop Depression, de Iggy Pop, e The Hope Six Demolition Project, de PJ Harvey.

Na cerimônia de 2017, o Brasil será representado por Caetano Veloso e Gilberto Gil. Os baianos tropicalistas tiveram o recente disco ao vivo Dois Amigos, Um Século de Música, que registra a turnê acústica homônima, indicado na categoria de Melhor Álbum de World Music.
